Uniforms

in the Kraków National Museum

Taken by me back in 2006. The glass and lack of natural light made colours a bit squiffy.

Sadly the uniforms were all of cavalrymen or senior officers, which doesn't interest me so much.

This photo was taken largely for the saddle, which is English, as used by the captain-of-horse of the 7th Lancer Regiment. Polish 1917 sabre.

K01: Piłsudski's 1919 tunic. In German colour feldgrau – the colour of the close-up shot gives the right colour.

K06: Uniform pieces from the Commander of the 11th Lancers Regiment. Cap made in Poland about 1919 (noted in the Polish as being "English cut"), tunic about 1917. The uniform was WWI English khaki coloured.

K07: Lance pennon of the 2nd Troop of the 1st Krechów Lancer Regiment. Ukraine c1917-1918 (Krechów is near Lviv, it would have been considered Poland in 1918 by the Poles). Silk, silver galloons and ribbon, sequins.

K04: "Maciejówka" uniform cap, from c1925. The colour has come out a bit too blue.

K02: Uniform pieces from 1st Lancer Squadron, 1st Polish Legions Brigade. Privates czapka, silk cord, ulanka (tunic) made in Kraków 1916. The colour of the rear shot is the most accurate.

K05: Uniform pieces from officer of 2nd Squadron, 2nd Legion Brigade c1914. Czapka is from Kraków's "Sokól Konny". The czapka did not appear to be fabric, but smooth.
