This is a place to put some miscellaneous material about the area from the Volga to the Ural mountains.
It overlaps a bit with the section on the Urals Cossacks, which can be found here.
The title is misleading, presumably riding on the latter's fame after Furmanov's book came out. It is actually about the fighting in the Samara, Saratov, Ural'sk triangle from the start of the war until the Reds' capture of Samara in October 1918. It gives a good feel for the nature of the early war, especially as the Red Army formed.
The author, Ivan Kutyakov, was a friend of Chapaev and some of the details on Chapaev may well have been embellished to help further the myth.
